I have some questions about a wifi repeater..
1.Can a wifi repeater work for ALL and ANY networks?
2.Any settings involved, or can i just plug it into a wall and it works..?
3.Will this work for my wii and itouch wifi? along with my laptop?
4.How big physically are theese things?
5.Where can i get one in Canada?
6.What is the price range for theese?
7.What can the different types of each repeater can do?
8. Do i have to plug this into any other device besides the wall socket?
Thanks in advance…
EDIT: Please onyl answer questions, heard repeaters are cheaper and less complicated..
1. A repeater only works if you have a WIFI source to repeat in the first place. You need an Internet Connection and a router first. Then the repeater can extend the range. They are not stand alone devices.
2. A repeater has to be matched to the “source” once setup they simply expand the range.
3. Yes they will work with any wireless 802.11x device. Wii, Itouch, laptops, etc.
4. Usually about the same size as a router. There are some designed to plug into the wall and are small devices for very short range.
5. Just about any computer store, office supply, or online.
6. Depends on the features and options usually $40-$100 (US)
7. Some repeaters just simply repeat the wifi signal to extend range, some can be used as a bridge, some have multiple ethernet ports for connecting wired machines.
8. Power is usually the only needed wired connection. You will need a wifi source for the unit to repeat!
Repeaters are normally used to extend wifi range. They do not work unless there is a wifi source which is connected to the internet. You still have to have and ISP and a wireless Access Point (or router) to use along with a repeater.
