visa abroad

Why does the national visa center charge $200 to apply for a visa abroad and $385 to someone sponsoring a?

person to get their visa ?
“La pinche migra,” That’s exactly how I feel about them too.

There are fees, and then there are fees, and you get ample opportunity to pay. The $385 fee goes to USCIS, for processing your immigrant visa petition. However, even though they charge the petitioner for the privilege, they are very stingy with their money and aren’t inclined to share with the Department of State, which actually does the interview and issues the visa. So, the Department of State feels quite bad about being left holding the bag, as it were, and feels obliged to charge you again to actually do the interview. Then the National Visa Center, which is mostly operated by a private company feels it should also have a piece of the pie and charges additional fees to evaluate the affidavit of support. I could go on, but I feel your eyes slowly closing. When you wake again, go to this site to see all these fees you’ve been talking about and even more you probably don’t even suspect exist. http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1263.html#perm
