On a 5 year multiple reentry Brazilian visa on an (expiring) US passport, can I transfer to a new passport?

My passport expires 8/31/09 & my visa expires on 7/19/2011. I will be applying for a new passport this week. Understandably I don’t wish to buy another visa, although I will be traveling to Brazil in 3 months. Am I able to transfer this Visa to my new passport? What should I do?

No need to transfer the visa, just use both passports.

Copied from the information website of the Brazilian consulate in Boston:

In the event that your passport expires before your Brazilian visa expires, you will NOT need to apply for a new Brazilian visa. Simply travel with 2 passports – the expired passport (with the valid Brazilian visa), and the new passport without a Brazilian visa and show them both to the Brazilian immigration authorities at the airport.
