Providian/Washington Mutual Reneged on Promotional APR. They are scum.?
I’ve never paid a bill late. I did two balance transfers last year to my Providian/Washington Mutual Visa. I was supposed to have a 4% APR THROUGH my July 2007 statement date. Today I got my June Statement, and the rate has already shot up to 24.24%. I called them. The first person I spoke to falsely claimed I’d used regular cash advance promo checks, giving me some completely false dates. I told her I had the original offer letter for the 4%. She told me to call back when I found it.
When I called back with the offer letter and the CORRECT dates, they wanted the check numbers! They didn’t mention the false dates they’d given me, and never admitted that they’d reneged on the rate. They acted like they had no record of the 4% APR deal. Finally they offered to refund the finance charges I paid this month. I accepted before I realized that it is still accruing at 24.24%, nearly two months before the offer is supposed to end! Can I do anything?
Leslie,
Yes, you can.
I bank with WAMU and have most of my financial services with them, including a high limit credit card.
Their credit card is a different company than the bank. It’s outsourced to some ignorant, foreign country and they feel that once you hang up, your problem is over.
