Kenyan Visa on Arrival?
[I am a U.S. citizen] The Kenyan Immigration Department’s website, as well as some other online resources, states that U.S. citizens can obtain a Kenyan visa on arrival at the Nairobi airport.
HOWEVER, the Kenyan Embassy in the U.S. states that “A visa is required prior to entry into Kenya.”
Why the discrepancy? I was wondering if anyone has been to Kenya recently and can please help! (I leave soon and do not think I have time to formally apply for a visa at the NY Consulate)
I’ve been to Kenya recently. You can buy a visa upon arrival. It’s only a formality. It’s much easier than getting one in the USA. There’s only a waiting line at the visa desk of about 20-30 minutes, typically. It costs something like $50.
Regarding the discrepancy you mention with the Kenyan immigration service website: I think that officially you only enter Kenya after leaving the visa desk at Nairobi airport.
best wishes
