visa upon arrival indonesia

How do you legally exit a country. Is there a specific distance away from mainland or….?
Country like Indonesia, if you have exit the country and enter back due to expiring visa and new visa upon arrival . How far can one travel away from Indonesia to re-enter. Or just goes back in to the arrival line and ask for a new visa. It could be any country as a mater of fact.
On land, one milimeter past the border is past the border. At sea it is a bit different. Most countries claim 3 or 12 miles, but a few claim hundreds of miles.
